Not sure what I have been more impressed with, the card or the drivers - being used to the NVidia control panel for so long. Then again I have vague memories of the CCC ATI panel being somewhat impressive.

Sure but rarely £225 more on a £580 model. Unless you buy ASUS :p In which case that's par for the course..

But... this time around the RRP was completely unrealistic so actually what you paid is probably the "real" price, rather than a scalped price. I'm happy to concede that.

Those of us waiting for RRP will ultimately probably end up with nothing.

I would expect the AIB cards to be £150-£200 more than the reference for their "better" cooler, I will be ripping it off and putting a water block on instead so it feels a bit daft to pay extra for an improved cooler when I am going to remove it.
If the Liquid Devil is in the 750 ballpark I might try and get one of those although I don't think I will get any choice until at best Easter.

Really?

I mean in the past (when I've looked/been in the market for something) it's been fairly typical to see an AIB model for ~£50 to maybe £100 more than the ref.

Iirc +£200 is ASUSland. Not typical, in my experience.

£200 (extra) for an air cooler is ... hmmm. You can get a nice water block for that money, no?

I think this time it's purely the fact that the RRP was hugely unrealistic. The AIBs have to charge +£200 to make any kind of margin, so we're being told.

And AMD aren't exactly selling many at RRP... out of stock for months, now.

So didn't consider the size before buying due to the shortages and what should have been a 10 min swap took a couple of hours. HAF XB EVO case which is a large desktop style case was barely big enough to accommodate it. Had to remove the AIO CPU cooler as the front mounted rad wouldn't fit as well as the GPU. Always keep spares just in case so refitted my Noctua air cooler which works fine at least with 2 RAM sticks!

I think you are correct, I was probably looking at the Asus cards when I got that price increase. I would consider getting one that is £50 more then swapping to a water block, the Liquid devil looks very nice though, fingers crossed for a sensible price for it, Im not holding my breath though!!

Hi all, so I built my first PC in prep for the 3000 series which turned out to be the worst time ever to build a new PC. I have had every chance to pick up a 3080FE like everyone else but had always been beaten to it due to timing/website traffic and PayPal god damn verification (so close on 4 occasions). It’s been months now and I was getting fed up with waiting so I managed to pickup an RX 6800 reference from the US for £500 including import tax believe it or not (possibly an error). I had my heart set on the 3080FE for both price and aesthetics for my new build but beggars can’t be choosers in these times it seems. The RX 6800 is being delivered next week but I’m not sure whether to sell it on and continue the wait for a 3080FE or just be happy? I wanted to game at 4K as I have a 4k60Hz monitor but I am planning to buy a new gaming monitor as soon as the card arrives (4K 144hz) or the odyssey g9 (I know this is not a 4K monitor) again this is dependant on stock as monitors seem to be running low too. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Also on a side note does the 3700x make use of SAM yet and has there been any update on AMD’s DLSS equivalent?

I will post pics when it arrives.

Honesty if you have your heart set on the 3080, try to get that. You could use the 6800 as an interim card, but the none XT is closer to a 3070 so probably won't do as well in 4k as you'd hope.

With the 60hz panel it'll probnably do you

Yes I think I will do exactly that. I just didn’t want to hinder resale value by opening the box and using the 6800 whilst continuing the search.

With stock shortages as they are I doubt you'll lose much, if any.

I have a 3080FE and 6800XT between me and the wife's pc's and if I were to pull one and sell I rekon I'd get my money back on either one today.

You got an amazing price for that 6800. Over here they only exist at £750+, and even then only rarely.

Ah 2021, when RRP is an amazing price you're super lucky to get.

Yes it seems it was super lucky to be fair, it was on partAlert on Twitter. £416 for the card and import tax from the US was £84! Bought from the UK site named by a rain forest but sold by the US version. I honestly thought it was going to cancelled but 8 days after ordering it has been shipped. It’s the Gigabyte Reference model.
As it’s my first PC I’m running a GT 710 lol so it should be a decent step up haha. It still eats at me that I haven’t been able to get the 3080 I wanted though. Such a horrible time to be looking for a GPU so good luck to those still searching.

Hi, been a Day 1 owner of the AMD Team Red reference 6800 XT. I have had 3 RX 6900 XT that I tested also. Honestly, 6800 XT OC is the way to go. The 6900 XT OC got me 2-4 fps more than my 6800 XT. The price difference I'm sorry, not justified. Anyway, my card UV to 905mv on the soc. I have also use MPT and I get fantastic performance 2750Mhz clocks in games. 20,135 Graphic score in TS. This card is really a beast but you must OC it.
