    How to Install a GPU Water Block?

    Installing a GPU water block requires several steps, from disassembling your existing cooling solution, cleaning and repasting the PCB, to final assembly. It should be noted that by doing this you may invalidate your warranty. If you do decide to proceed, we’ve listed the basic steps you’ll generally need to follow:

    • Disassembly - To begin the process, you’ll first need to remove the GPU’s existing cooler to expose the PCB. Start by unscrewing the backplate and mounting bracket, along with disconnecting any power and RGB cables. Once these are all removed, you should be able to lift away the cooler. This may require some twisting to loosen the seal created by the old thermal paste.
    • Cleaning - You’ll need to clean your GPU in preparation for mounting the water block. Using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth, gently wipe away the thermal paste from the die. Additionally, peel away the thermal pads from the VRMs and VRAM modules.
    • Apply Thermal Paste and Pads - Now you can apply fresh thermal paste and pads to your GPU. Your water block will generally include thermal paste and pads. However, if you purchase your own paste and pads separately, ensure they are compatible with your GPU and water block.
    • Mount the Block - You are now ready to mount your GPU block to the PCB. Align the block with the mounting points on your graphics card and carefully attach it. Ensure that it is contacting the thermal paste and pads, then tighten the screws using a cross-pattern technique to apply even pressure. Do not overtighten these, as you risk cracking the GPU die.
