Streaming online is a hugely popular service, with multiple platforms to get your content out to the masses. From bedroom based heroes, to live esports finals - there's a wide variety of gaming to be watched - simply load up and tune in.

Starting out can seem both simple and daunting at the same time, but with a good enough PC & a strong internet connection you can get going today. Of course, this is just the start of your journey, there's plenty more to think about - so we've covered a range of topics to help your channel hit the next level, whether you're on Twitch, YouTube or Facebook Live, or Mixer... (or anywhere else for that matter)

Having the right tools for the trade is key, whether you're running a single PC set up for both gaming & streaming, a 2 PC set up with dedicated machines, or a more elaborate set up with capture devices for consoles. Same goes for your peripherals, chair, and everything else in between.

At Overclockers UK, our streaming set up consists of 4 dedicated gaming machines, using external microphones, and steelseries peripherals. A fifth machine is the command centre, capturing all of the gaming, mixing the gaming audio & microphones, and putting it all live.

Our Peripherals: steelseries Rival 710, Arctis Pro plus GameDAC, M750 Full Length & OcUK 3XL Premium Elite Mouse Mat

A single system set up requires both plenty of horsepower for the processor & the graphics card, as it needs to do both jobs. It might sound daunting but at minimum you're going to need an Intel Core i7 or Core i9, or a Ryzen 7 or better. For the graphics card, the bigger the better. At minimum we'd recommend a RTX 2070 (or equivalent) or better. Also a minimum of 16GB will be required, but we'd recommend 32GB for the headroom.

For a dual system set up, your gaming PC will need around 16GB RAM, a strong processor, and a hefty graphics card - as ultimately, it'll be the GPU doing the work.

Your streaming PC will need a much more powerful processor, and can use a discrete graphics card for the output. Of course, you'll need a capture device to connect your gaming PC. Your streaming PC is going to have to be mATX or full ATX to have both a graphics card & capture device, plus a super efficient cooler - and a sound dampened case wouldn't go amiss either!

It might sound odd, but considering you're going to be spending a good few hours sat down, you'll want to be sat somewhere comfortable and supportive.

noblechairs offer unmatched levels of qualty and comfort, with subtle styling that's used by gamers, streamers, and professionals alike - available in PU & real leather.

Nitro Concepts offer up a bright and colourful solution for those wanting to sync their asthetics (sorry, no there isn't one in RGB!) with breathable fabric, which comes in a range of colours.

STREAMING: Microphones

Good audio really helps, there's nothing wrong than overly tinny audio, horrible buzzing, hissing, or just general background noise. Professional grade audio doesn't have to cost a fortune either.

Blue microphones are a great starter choice, with a range of products at varying price points, from the Snowball to the Platinum Yeti, with choices for USB & XLR - so you can plug in and go, or use an external mixer or interface.

AKG have a history of premium audio solutions, sporting an XLR connector, they're best used with an external mixer or interface - and will require a shock-mount & boom arm - which can be bought from a variety of places.

An absolute staple part of any content creator is putting a face to the name - a webcam is an instant way to express yourself totally. From the victories to failures, rage, and terror - you're allowing your follows to connect even more so... and probably meme you.

A super popular choice is the Logitech C920, with full HD 1080 support and stereo audio captuire, it's an instant go to for those starting out or seasoned veterens.

RAZER's Kiro is also a great choice, with a built in light ring, supporting 720p at 60FPS & 1080 at 30FPS.

STREAMING: Capture Cards

As we said previously, those rocking a dual system set up - or using external devices like a PlayStation or XBOX - will need a capture card. There's plenty of choice around, with support including 4K sources and 60FPS for ultra high definition and ultra smooth gameplay.

STREAMING: Accessories

elgato deliver with the goodies to make your stream a complete, professional set up.

For those content creators who'd prefer to use a DSLR (or similar), the Cam Link allows you to do just that - with choices for up to 4K at 30fps. Perfect for those looking to go live or pre-record, allowing you to store your footage directly to the PC.

The elgato Stream Deck is a USB device that works alongside various platforms and streaming services, with 15 fully customisable keys (or 6 on the mini), it allows you to easily tweak different elements of the stream, post pre-composed messages, and much more - PLUS you can change the icon on the key to make it super easy to see what you're doing.

The Stream Deck & Stream Deck Mini are super compact and simple to use - and no need to worry if you've not got the creative flair, as their Key Customiser makes changing the key's icon super simple.

Usually you'd associate the phrase "green screen" (aka chroma keying) with visual FX & film studios - and normally these appear to be HUGE green/blue panels to edit scenes in after. When in the home, a more elegant solution is required, and most previous attempts have been... interesting.

elgtato's Collapsible Streaming Green Screen is a fantastic piece of kit that simply pulls up, crease free, and is ready to go. Simply pop it on the floor with the feet rotated 90° to the body, and raise the backdrop.

It comes with it's own built in support behind the canvas, for stability and confidence, and when collapsed it takes up barely any room.

Finally, we have the elgato Key Light - a compact, ultra bright lighting solution for your streaming set up. Believe us when we say this mini beast really works! PLUS it comes with it's own stand. Simply pop the stand up, connect your light to it, plug in the power and mind your eyes.

Any streamer looking to reduce their footprint and maximise space will love these, with one or two lights you'll wonder how you got by without them.

Peripheral Bundles

A good set of peripherals can make or break a clutch, so why not ensure you get that pentakill with some lovely new peripherals. Here at Overclockers UK, we provide a wide range of mice, keyboards, headsets, and more - and we also offer pre-designed bundles to make life easier. Whether you're starting out or a veteran, you're sticking to a budget or having a splurge, lover or hater or RGB, clicky keys, or whatever... there's something for everyone.
