What Is RAM?
RAM, or Random Access Memory, is the fastest memory inside your computer and is responsible for processing data your CPU needs fast access to. It is called RAM because the CPU can “randomly access” memory cells on the RAM chip. It is much faster to locate data in RAM than to access other types of memory, such as a hard drive or even an SSD.
DDR4 or DDR5?
Choosing the right RAM is incredibly important. Although they look similar, DDR4 and DDR5 memory are not compatible with each other. Additionally, your CPU and motherboard may only be compatible with one of these memory types.
DDR4 memory is still incredibly powerful and a great choice for mid-range gaming PCs thanks to its lower price point. As the latest generation of computer memory, DDR5 RAM introduces faster data transfer speeds, improved efficiency, and increased capacity, enhancing overall system responsiveness and multitasking capabilities.
How Much Ram Do I Need?
For gaming, 16GB of either DDR4 or DDR5 memory is considered the sweet spot. This amount is more than enough for the latest AAA games and even simultaneously watching videos. However, if you’re planning to stream, edit video content, or use tools such as Photoshop, you’ll likely see significant benefits from increasing your PC's RAM to 32GB or higher.

What is RAM?
The most common type of RAM and the type you’ll need for a gaming PC motherboard is DDR RAM. Double Data Rate Random Access Memory, is a type of computer memory that transfers data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, allowing for faster data transfer rates. Is DDR4 RAM backward compatible with DDR3 motherboards?
