Hybrid Architecture

Alder Lake utilises a new hybrid architecture that marries two types of processing cores. The P-core, is designed for single-thread, high-frequency performance. This core handles most of the workload whilst operating with a new power management controller allowing for fine frequency control and maximum performance.

The E-core is designed to spread background tasks across multiple cores and threads to maximise efficiency. Notably, this helps conserve battery when performant cores are not needed, with a 40% improvement over Sky Lake generation processors. What's more, this core works alongside the performant core to boost applications and tasks that require a lot of power.

Thread Director ® Windows 11

Thread Director allows the two types of cores to work together cohesively. This new tool is a hardware-level feature on all Alder Lake processors that informs Windows how to assign tasks to different cores. Notably, on Windows 11, twelfth generation intel processors leverage this functionality for full visibility, allowing for higher efficiency.

Enhanced Technologies

Intel Smart Cache has received a boost in performance this generation. The L3 and L2 Cache sizes support large memory capacity and reduce latency, allowing for fast AAA gaming and productivity alike. Additionally, Alder Lake processors benefit from support for DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0, Thunderbolt 4, and WiFi 6E Gig+ for super-fast connectivity.
