Ryzen Tuned with AMD Motherboards

General Computing. High-Performance Productivity. Extreme Gaming

Adhering to the users choices and personal preference, AMD motherboards are available in four primary platforms: FM2+, AM1, AM3+ and AM4. With varying options from the industry's leading manufacturers, brands such as Gigabyte, AsRock, Asus and MSI all provide their own unique set of features and expandability, valued efficiently for every budget.

AMD Chipset Compatibility:

Socket AM1 – Athlon and Sempron APU.
Socket AM3+ – Piledriver FX-4 Quad Core, FX-6 Six Core and FX-8 Eight Core CPU.
Socket FM2 – AMD Trinity and Richland A4, A6, A8, A10 APU.
Socket FM2+ – Kaveri A6, A8 and A10 APU. Athlon X4 CPU.
Socket AM4 – Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 CPU.

AMD Motherboard Sizes:
Mini-ITX (mITX) –  Micro-ATX (mATX) – Full-Size-ATX (ATX)

Taking main priority over which components can be installed within the PC, the motherboard stands as the determining factor for all aspects of input, output, feature set and expandability. Containing a socket type where by the CPU is installed, DIMM slots for RAM, SATA connection ports for storage and optical drives, and PCI/PCI-E expansions slots for the use of dedicated graphics cards, sound cards and variations of hardware that may choose to take advantage of its speed capabilities – the motherboard serves as the main building block for every other component. While each chipset type supports varying levels of hardware features the AMD socket is designed in such a way that allows consumers to feel comfortable, and to understand which products they may need, depending on their computing requirements.

Socket AM1
Designed for the means of basic computing along with a small selection of basic features, the AM1 motherboard does well to compliment small form-factor PCs. Providing support for USB 3.0 data transfer, on-board LAN controllers, PCI-E expansion slots and compatibility for storage devices with the latest SATA3 connections –  available in both mITX and mATX, the platform sizes proves to be good value for money, given the options and features that's provided with its chipset.

While the AM1 platform does yield few limitations within its feature-set as well as the quantity of components that's viable for installation, the platform does hold true in being a solid option for everyday tasks and the use of modern peripherals. Primarily restricted to a maximum of X2 memory slots and in certain scenarios no support for dedicated graphics solutions, the minute footprint of the motherboard itself has been designed around these limitations – taking advantage of the on-board graphics chip that's available on the AMD APU processors, all the while being energy efficient within its power usage.

Socket FM2/FM2+
Taking full advantage of the APU chipset by delivering a host of additional features and expansion options not fully featured on lower-end motherboards, the FM2 and FM2+ platforms expand upon the form-factor choices that's available, allowing features that's only possible on standard ATX motherboards to be used with higher-end APUs. Available in mITX, mATX and standard ATX sizes, users who wish to expand upon the input and output feature-set and gain more from their computing needs can expect to find the offerings available within the Trinity and Richland series APUs to meet their requirements from the FM2 platform.

For the entry-level gamers and cunning enthusiasts the FM2+ platform may at first appear to be identical to the aforementioned platform, but the increased graphical grunt that's present on the higher-end APUs allow for casual gaming at Full HD resolutions, as well as the use of standalone CPUs to be installed for those who wish to use a discrete graphics card solution.

Socket AM3+
Bringing support for the overclocking features desired by gamers for high-end processors, the AM3+ chipset is essential for those who wish to take advantage of multiple-GPU support, USB 3.0 & USB 3.1 data transfer speeds, on-board audio with dedicated channels, enhanced support for networking with Gigabit LAN, as well as the newer M.2 PCI-E expansion storage capabilities offered by the latest M.2 SATA drives.

Compatible with FX-series processors, the AM3+ platform removes the need for the on-board graphics capabilities featured on the APU. Instead, relying on a traditional FX-series CPU along with a discrete graphics card solution for the gamers it's intended for, as well as options for both small form-factor and standard size builds thanks to its mATX and ATX compatibility.

Socket AM4
Providing support for the latest features such as DDR4 memory, USB 3.1 Gen2 and Type C, M.2 storage solutions and PCIE 3.0, the AM4 platform is greatly expandable within its feature-set, giving basic users as well as gamers and those of high-performance a platform to gain a substantial amount of benefit from. Whether it’s general computing applications or high-performance applications requiring multi-GPU solutions, the AM4 platform takes full advantage of the AMD Ryzen processors, exceeding the feature-set and level of performance that’s offered on the AM3+ platform.

Available in Quad Core, Six Core an Eight Core variants with specific models featuring a hyperthreaded design, the AMD Ryzen processors utilize the AM4 platform through the means of the latest architectural improvements and technologies, giving way to new means of power efficiency, consistently high clock speeds, thermal control management and far greater tools for user-control overclocking.
