Great AM4 CPU, so close to perfection
Everyone knows good sides of this chip, but few thinghs need to be considered before You buy.
- This is locked CPU - blocked PBO, Curve optimization and VCORE (at least on most MB)
- CPU is generating a lot of heat - Proper cooling solution is requied, Vcore and PBO cannot be optimized (for undervoltage) in BIOS. For reference: Noctua NH-U12A is my personal recommendation as air cooling tower. Or any 240+ mm AIO.
- Not best as "productive CPU"
- 7800X 3D is a lot better option if building new platform (MB+RAM+CPU). With similar price.
If You updating from Ryzen 3xxx or older, mostly for games, and MB supporting it, this CPU is best option, Updating Ryzen 5800X (non 3d) or better, sometimes can do oposite results due to slower clocks of this chip.
I updated from Ryzen 5600X - and results are positive.
Big thanks to OC as I ordered this very late on friday within 30mins of shop shutting and it came next morning, So as for power its a beast and as for temps I have it on a 360 Arctic II front intake and idles at 38 and during intense bf2042 full max settings only hit 68 all night. So very pleased with the upgrade as I had a 3600x before so massive jump and my bios was ready for it. Paired it with 32g ram I just upgraded from 16g and my 3070 runs nice with it till I upgrade the gpu.
Great Last HURRAH For AM4
I built an HTPC to do VR in the living room using a 5600X, B550 and 6900XT. As soon as this puppy went under £400, I grabbed one and such a great performance uplift without a platform change. In VR it is hard to notice "increases in FPS", but you can definitely notice the better frame pacing, which is crucial for a good experience. Also, this is in a thermally constrained enclosure and it doesn't go beyond 80°C when playing games, streaming and using voice chat. Sure, it runs hotter than the 5600X, but it also puts way more frames for me to enjoy while keeping the same whisper quiet operation when just watching Netflix.
Great buy and great last hurrah, for sure.
