Liquid nitrogen cooling for PCs is a sub-zero cooling solution for the most hardcore overclocking enthusiasts who wish to compete with the best of the best overclockers and to achieve world-class scores when benchmarking their rigs. This cooling method and practice has been around for a while now and competitions are held all around the world with large cash prizes for the winners! LN2 cooling uses what are called ‘inflection points’ or ‘evaporation pots’ which sit on top on the hardware you are overclocking. Because the temperatures can get so cold when using liquid nitrogen, hardware can actually perform worse or stop working altogether! To prevent this, small heaters are actually used to keep the temperature from becoming too cold. Who would have thought that ‘too cold’ was a thing in computing? As well as keeping one eye on the temperature of each component, the other needs to take note of the LN2 levels in the pots, topping them up as needed. This is due to LN2’s extraordinarily low boiling point of -196 degrees Celsius, so it’s easy to then understand why it evaporates extremely quickly at room temperature.
