GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Virtual Reality has landed with the likes of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive already available. Valve have released a SteamVR benchmark which will test your system for VR Ready status, we advise customers to run this benchmark as the minimum specification to be VR Ready is a GTX 970 from camp NVIDIA. VR is a game changer for games such as Elite Dangerous, Portal 3, Flight simulator, Project cars and who knows the elusive Half Life 3 may make an appearance from Valve as being VR optimised, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPU's can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology). Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.

The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.

Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.

GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

Get VR Ready with GeForce® GTX.
GeForce® GTX graphics cards provide a powerful next-generation platform for the ultimate immersive virtual reality experience. Immersive VR requires seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D apps and games. NVIDIA's unique set of features-such as multi-res shading-mean you get the right level of performance, image quality, and latency to ensure your VR experience is nothing short of amazing.

Amazing Upgrade - Best 1080p Card

I bought this card as an upgrade from a AMD Radeon HD 6450 (which if you know anything you will know that it is utter trash.) I installed it easily and started up games and was very impressed with my investment into the card and is probably one of the best bang for buck cards on the market with its stock OC. Great service from the guys at overclockers as normal.

Gabe 2016-06-25

great card

I just got one of these to replace a gainward phantom gtx 970 and im really impressed.

I was happy with the Gainward but I found it would throttle a fair bit if pushed hard and wouldnt overclock that well.

where as the Asus Strix runs really cool and I haven't seen it throttling yet and Ive pushed it harder than the Gainward.

even with a hefty overclock it runs cooler than the Gainward did at stock!! it does have more noticeable fan noise but I wouldn't say its a noisy card. I would recommend this card.

Better than a 290...

Putchased this card as a replacement for a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC which died less than sixty days after the warranty was up. Went for this card after reading many positive reviews, and the free SSD didn't hurt! Compared to the 290 this card is whisper quiet, runs much cooler and performs slightly better. Would have given 10/10 but the card sags a little in its socket once installed - I hope this doesn't cause problems in the long run.

Very happy all round

Card arrived well packaged and very timely. Only fitted it today so not really had time to run it gaming yet, but it went in flawlessly, always a good sign. Love the free SSD too, Ive made that my games folder now so hoping load times will be faster on my i5.

All in all well happy, and thanks for the free bag of sweeties in there too. :) Enjoyed them while I updated drivers.

Great card but bit of a bum deal!!

Well been just over a month since a upgraded from my Strix 960 4gig to the Strix 970 Was not a massive jump I know but my main games are running smoother and because of the bandwidth not struggling like they used to (Arma3 Dayz ) PC killers lol

When had seen the deal OC UK were doing with ASUS & Nvidia Cash Back and two great games to pick from Bullets or Blades from GeForce It was a know brainier. So why did I mark it down ???
Nothing to do with the Graphics card it was purely down to the promotion mainly Bullets or Blades GeForce... 1: Its not for Steam >> Uplay only and 2: when I had checked the website it had to claimed before Dec 25th ..... So I lost out there ( This was not made very clear .. Unfortunately or would of given a 10 .. As for the Staff at OC uk delivered on time as always and very helpful with any advice.

Mr John Wilson 2016-01-26

So good i bought 2 ;-)

I've had 2 of these in SLI for a while now and I can assure you they are well worth the money. They now have the EK waterblocks fitted I purchased about 6 months ago so now are even quieter ;-)

I have no problems running games at 4K with 2 of these and everything looks gorgeous!

Great service from OCUK as always too.

Damn Worth The Quids!!

This is a stonking good GFX card! It replaces two GTX 660 in SLi. As I only play games at 1080p, I can't comment on the "RAMgate" issue, or whatever people call it. It runs my most played games, Project Cars, BF4, Farcry 3 & F1 2015... maxxed out, 60+ FPS
It runs super quiet, in a case, not suited for good airflow (NZXT 210 something-or-other)
I'll try to honor this card, by purchasing a 1440p monitor. But I, personally, aren't in a rush.
On a side note! Sorry OCUK. You are my usual go-to place for new hardware. However, I bought my Strix 970 from PC World, of all places!!, and for less than what your price would have been, even including the cashback offer!!!

Outstanding upgrade from crossfire 7870's

Upgraded from two XFX HD7870's to this beast. Have loved every minute of it. Super quiet even when under full load, runs GTAV on Ultra 60FPS easily. Fantastic card, stream/record with it also using Shadowplay/OBS, and not had one regret making the upgrade.

Recommending for anyone looking to move to the 900 series.

Beast of a card

This one beast of a card! Downloaded GPU tweak and fiddled around and eventually tried at max tweak.
1261mhz and 1400mhz BOOST! memory is also up by 1000mhz to 8010mhz. Temperature? 69 degrees celcius.

It's damn quiet too.

Great upgrade

Got this card to play GTA5 in 4K and it doesn't disappoint... it replaced 2 660's in SLi and it outperforms them on every level... Highly recommend the card, it's quiet and doesn't get hot, though I wouldn't say it was silent all the time.

Off load it cuts off the fans to kill noise at which point it becomes silent.

had my strix about 5 days and have been blown away how awesome it is i had a gtx 660ti before so needed a upgrade it feels awesome to ramp the graphics ip in gta so well worth my purchase price plus 2 free games

i have had my 970 strix a few days now going from a gtx 660ti and boy does this card rock ive got a 4k display and this with the right settings tweaked rocks im so impressed and a great service from overclockers plus 2 free games it cant be bad

Fantastic Card - Worthwhile upgrade

No matter how many of these have gone through the old '3.5GB not worth it', yadayadayada, this card still dominates. Upgraded from crossfire XFX 7870's, 2GB each to a 4GB card and it is nothing but amazing. Hesitant of coil while when I received it, no issue whatsoever.

Love Overclockers, love this GPU, looks smashing and stays below 50 degrees C at all times. Amazing bit of kit.

great graphics card Silent . a massive jump in power from my gtx 580 .less power draw less noise more power . but you should be aware 3.5 gb is usable memory on all 970 gtx graphics cards . just the way there speed binned . should really be called 3.5 gb or memory a misstake on nvidas behalf at the time of launch . do your own web search for more info . if you need the extra memory or thinking of running a pair i would research as the big bother with full memory stated 4 gb not 3.5 gb usable they are 4 gb but you only Access 3.5gb more than enuff for most .
still gives amd some mud to throw . makes no diffrance to me recommend best enthusiast graphics card for the money . but @ Nvidia be more clear on your marketing and call it what it is a 3.5 gb graphics and not 4 gb as 3.5 gb is usable

So many great things to say about it!

So far Asus hasn't failed me yet so I intend on sticking with their GPU's. Been quite interested in the GTX 970 model since it got revealed. Reviews had so many good things to say about it whether it's the performance or the fact that the prices aren't that bad, saw this GPU from Asus and thought it was a really sexy looking graphics card, but I as unsure about the Strix technology. After hearing more about it I decided this was the card for me and I definitely feel like I made the right decision.

1. I love the fact the fans only turn on when it's needed which when I monitored the fans one time, they were pretty much never on unless I was gaming and even then the fans were on low so it's uber quiet which is a big plus.

2. Performance wise it's fantastic. Thanks to this DSR technology with the 900 series, I was able to get a game like Borderlands 2 to render at much higher resolutions which improved the quality so much more. Still trying out out other games, but so far it's been pretty awesome and I can definitely see the difference in some games.

3. Build of the GPU is fantastic. It definitely does not feel cheap.

That's all the main stuff said. Installation was pretty easy and has no issues and a big thank you to Overclockers for their great service, I will definitely continue to shop here!

Not quiet

I see lots of people claiming this is a silent card - it is not.

True, when you are on your desktop the fans are often not even running and it's lovely, but as soon as the GPU temp gets to a certain level the fans kick in and are quite audible. The GPU Tweak app allows you to fix the fan speed % but has a minimum level of 40% which I can clearly hear, 50% is loud, anything above it very loud. It's not just mine because my brother has the same card and does the same thing.

A truly silent card was the GTX 670 I had before this (again from Asus, hence why I bought from them again).

Otherwise the card is excellent and can handle any game thrown at it. But if you are a silence freak like me go for something else.

Great Card

With so many 5 * reviews for the performance, price and power efficiency you can't go wrong with purchasing this GPU.

One of the best out there and as always being a fan of Asus, I can say that they did an amazing job with the fans. One is off almost all the time and rarely gets hot or 100% usage as its a beast of a card!

Purchase it, highly recommended!

quality card

this is my 3rd build and I didn't want to break the bank so went for the 970 instead of the 980 and it performs very well overclocked I get a graphics score of 13254 on 3dmark fire storm. it plays call of duty advanced warfare on ultra settings too. very good card.

If you are going to upgrade.....UPGRADE

I have had this card for a week now. I can't really express how happy I am with it.

1. It is Silent. Fans don't run until the card temp surpasses 67 Degrees Celsius.
2. Happy Overclocker. It sings numbers people.
Default GPU Clock 1114MHz
OC GPU Clock 1289MHz
Default Memory 1753MHz
OC Memory 1903MHz
3. Build Quality. The Strix Cooler really out does what I had before (AMD HD6870)
4. 1440p Gaming without the "Ah crap my GPU can't handle that game".
5. Backplate. They have made it a standard, nice.

I don't have a second card =(

Please do not hesitate to buy this card. Upgrade if you have to. You can buy anywhere else but make sure you buy it from the only and only =)

Asus 970

Great card very quiet... great service from OC thanks for the Hario !

Strix 970

Amazing card holds its own with anything you throw at it , great service from OC , thanks for the Haribo !

Great value for money.

Awesome gfx card, its not as quick as the 980 but im not doing 4k gaming or anything so seemed a waste to go for that when the 970 will play anything maxed out at 1080.

Had issues with the pc not booting after I installed the card, just a black screen I almost returned it, but after a lot of internet searching I tried updating my bios & It did the trick.

Loud Fan 4 some

When the fans does turn on is quite loud , it is for me in my fractal R4 case , other than that it is a very nice GPU , considering SLI'ng this for extra umph and tranquillity.

I would have given it 5 star if it werent for those fans or maybe just me for being silent enthusiast either way is louder than my case fans .

This is where it's at

Very happy I chose this card,

Gave it a modest oc using Asus GPU Tweak, didn't touch the voltage or power target and it boosts to 1400mhz very easily (this was with a boost clock setting of 1350mhz) I also bumped the memory up by 200mhz to 7200mhz. I didn't have to do any benchmarks or stability tests, it loves these figures.

I would say the best thing about the card is the cooler, BF4 1200p Ultra with V-Sync doesn't get the card up to 67 degrees so it's completely passive cooling which is just crazy!

Another plus point for me is the single 8 pin power supply, I believe 8 pin is rated up to around 225w, the default TDP being 145w theres plenty of headroom in both temps and power supply for those who wish to push the card further.

I'll be popping another one along side it once I have saved some pennies, sli and zero fan noise anyone?

So good i brought it twice

yes it's a no brainer, because the only other card worth considering is the MSI Lightning 290X Crossfire.....but no.

the GTX 970 Strix is simply too good to choose anything else, it's dead quiet, runs cold even whilst gaming and is 100% reliable, it doesn't overclock as high as a few of the other cards, but it's a superior card to them, and this sais everything.

as said last time, it's construction is pure quality

Mal X

SLI for me

so good they named it twice, so good i brought it twice.

it was either another of these cards or the MSI Lightning 290x Crossfire, it would've been more fun but also far hotter and louder.

it's a no brainer, the Asus GTX 970 is virtually perfect, it's not given me any problem at all, just plug and play..i dont need SLI but it'll last me another year or so whilst i'm saving for 4K TV.

this GPU feels like it's unplugged, the fans hardly ever turn, it's dead quiet and no coil whine, i've never known anything like it

its Drivers need improving but it doesn't crash like it did two weeks ago, since downloading the last lot

very nice card for the price

plays games reli good and also the fans dont start spinning until it gets to about 50c but ive never seen this card go over 71c under load :) good price for what you get.
dont go with ups for delivery it was 3 days late there company is a joke.

Best Price vs Performance Card in Ever

Absolutely amazing experience, for a very good price. I was considering the GTX 980, but realised that for another

Silent, Swift, Sexy

Really impressed with my new ASUS GTX 970 Strix.

I get between 80 and 110 fps playing Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings without even hearing any increase in fan noise from my case. This is a far cry from the GTX 580 I've just upgraded from which sounded like a jet fighter about to take off during gaming sessions.

So I've had:
-better fps
-lower power consumption
-no fan noise
-less complaints from my wife about the noise of my fans

One thing to note is that I did have to upgrade the BIOS of my ASUS Rampage IV Extreme mobo to allow this card to work. Had a not so fun evening of fault checking when card didn't work, but the Overclockers support pointed me in the direction of BIOS which solved my problems.

Loving the card and considering maybe getting a second. :D

Fantastic Card.

Just a quick review I got my card last week also went from a GTX580 and what a card, I have mine on a fan profile with afterburner and its still silent. The card get about 120+ fps in BF4 maxed out on most maps, Crysis 2 maxed as well it just eats anything out there. It a big heavy card so beware I have a HAFX and fit no probs, For the price its a steal and looks great when Installed.

Big Thumbs up from me.

Silent killer

This card was an upgrade replacement for an EVGA 580GTX SC and was well worth it.

1. Noise is history - it is inaudible unless maxing the card out and then is like a mouse compared to the roar of my previous GFX card. This is as close as anyone can expect to get to silent for a fan cooled high end graphics card.
2. Heat is lower - temps max out around 65c, my EVGA 580GTX would hit 90c in no time.
3. Lower power consumption - well documented in other reviews.
4. Great performance boost too.
5. No installation issues.
6. Great service from Overclockers.
7. Great price considering the performance and when stacked up against the 980GTX.

No negatives experienced.

Amazing Card

This card replaced a reference r9 290 and I have to say it runs cool and quiet. Normal desktop the fans do not even spin up and when gaming I can't hear it over the case fans. My card is boosting up 1303MHz, I have not attempted to overclock it but on my 1080p 144Hz monitor.

The cooler on the Strix is fantastic and looks the part as well.

I have been team red since 2004 but this card really is something special. It is quick, low on power consumption and silent.

You can't go wrong with this card :)

Fantastic card

this GPU was very quickly delivered, i was pleasantly surprised to notice that the cooler cover is metal, it's pure quality..... because this isn't cheap plastic like my AMD cards. This card is very well made and looks very serious, it's cool and nasty with a really nice Backplate !!!!!! this GPU will suit most rigs because it doesn't have a Colour clash with anything else.

Asus have gone for a Jet black finish, but with quite a shiny cooler, to me this works perfectly well, but it could do with a splash of colour, having said that the Asus logo is a very shiny silver and shows up really well at range, so maybe it's ok as it is.

whatever the case, this is the best quality card i've ever had..........i've not Benchmarked it yet though

Mal X

1440p Sweetspot

Fantastic card and really pleased thus far. Running cool and quiet in my Fractal R3 case. GPUz reports boosting up to 1354mhz without overclocking it which seems to be 100mhz more than specified, which is strange. All games run smooth as butter so far on my Dell 1440p screen. This was a replacement for an Asus AMD290. The RMA team and Overclockers staff been fantastic throughout the process. Thanks
