Great card quiet and cool.

The 970 is an excellent graphics card despite the whole has it got 3.5 gigs or 4gigs of memory thing.
seems to hold its own on the top games with little or no winding back on the settings. As for overclockers claim that asus are giving away farcry primal with it as of this review date(sun 30th april 2016) , NOT IN THE UK.

Overclockers give the .com asus address to check out the deal ,which states the offer runs from feb 15th to 30th of april.

If you check the uk site like I did AFTER I bought the card, you will find the deal only runs to the 21st of march in the UK.

I'm guessing overclocers has been caught out on this as well. So not blaming them.

Excellent - but, you will notice the noise if you have a silent-ish sys

Great card, nice and fast.

But, there is a caveat: noise is subjective...

If you don't care about noise then really, this card will be fine for you.

However, if you've invested in quiet components elsewhere, then the default speed of the blower produces a noticeable drone. I increased the default fan speed by 1% until mid 30s and it was less noticeable. Higher pitched, but less noticeable overall.

After a month or so, I added an aftermarket cooler (Arctic Accelero S1 Plus VGA Cooler), with some modification and two 92mm fans running silently and it's running quite a bit cooler than the stock HS + blower despite the fans running silently.

I use this http://gelidsolutions.com/products/index.php?lid=2&cid=11&id=60 so I still keep PWM fan control from the card.

So, I am very happy, as I always tend to replace the stock HSF anyway.

Fast and quiet

Fast out of the box, no issues whatsoever with noise.

Overclocks to 1500/8000 if you really want it to but other than benching it's pretty pointless for me as I'm only on 1080p so it runs everything with all eye-candy at normal clocks.

Noise levels

Hmm, I guess any of you complaining about this card being to loud never ever had a better card than this... Better card with two or more fans will be even more louder, you could get one with water cooling but then that would increase the costs...
One of the best and quietest cards to recommend with a single fan on double bearings.

ALSO for the LED lighting:

if you go into the GeForce experience application, and then select the 'LED Visualizer' option under 'My Rig' there is an option to just have the lights display whilst your rig is on, or to turn off the LEDs altogether - simple as that. You won't have to go to the trouble of turning it of every night then.

There are plenty of other effects in there that you can play around with as well.

You welcome! ;)

Idiots.

I really can't stress enough how stupid everyone sounds moaning about the sound to the point where you are returning it because and only that reason?? Its cheap as chips for what it can do, unless you want to for out another £90 on a card that will do exactly the same with a slightly quieter fan......Trust me it isn't that bad. its even quieter if you wear a headset (Duhh). Where do you guys keep your computers? Strapped to your face or something? lol, man up.

Almost perfect with a few drawbacks

This card works pretty well straight out of the box. Regarding aesthetics, it can go horribly wrong and stick like a sore thumb in your system, or it can make the whole thing look badass, it was the latter for mine.

There are two drawbacks on the card for me personally which I can live with no issues but would have been perfect if dealt with, hence the 8/10.

1. The noise, as people have already said. The fan is set to be at a minimum 28%. If you want a -dead- silent system, this card might not be for you. But for the 80% of systems out there anyway, most of the noise from your other parts or the actual surroundings will drown this out.

2. Overclocking capability is quite low. Compared with the overclocking capabilities with the other 970 versions out there, this version falls behind a little bit. The 970 can handle pretty much what I needed to anyway out of the box so this doesn't really apply to me. Just wanted to put it out there for other people.

If a 970 is what you want and love the aesthetics, I really recommend it if the common blower type noise doesn't bother you.

A few odd design choices.

The card is great performance wise and I got it at a great price point. Unfortunately there are a few downsides, the noise has been mentioned already, it isn't horrific but you can definitely notice it.

Secondly the power cable plugs into the centre of the side of the card which got in the way of the fan cover on my HAF-X side fan.

Thirdly the cover for the card goes almost all the way to the backplate which made securing the thumbscrew there a pain.

Finally there is also a bright white LED on the card that can be irritating if you have a window on the side of your case like me. At night time it illuminates half the room.

Overall I don't regret the purchase at all but there are a few things I would have liked to have been different.

Not satisfied with noise

Its nice card but the fan is very loud even on idle, and you get slight buzzing sound from the fan, mine was vertical so maybe that's why, had to return it, no clue what Asus was thinking making this card and there are no reviews available to warn you

ryan 2016-01-03

Excellent card

There is a low level of noise (fan stays at 28% minimum) however the card is excellent at controlling temperature, keeping it nice and cool.

One other issue is a bright white LED stays illuminated after shut down. You have to turn the power supply off to get rid of it. This can be quite annoying if you have a glass panel case.

Fast & Furiously Annoying

An unbelievable upgrade from my creaking 7850, but as Jack says, it's rather noisy when idle which is very annoying.

If I can't find a way to reduce the fan's 28% lower limit, I too will be returning it.

Jack 2015-12-09

Good card but produces horrible noise at idle

It's a well performing card but the one I got produced a constant loud drone at idle that I found so unbearable that I returned mine. With so many other options I think you'd be better off picking out a quieter card.
