From top to bottom, the ROG Strix GeForce RTX™ 3080 has been radically improved to accommodate the impressive new NVIDIA Ampere architecture and to deliver the next wave of gaming performance innovation to the market. A fresh design and more metal surrounds a grouping of Axial-tech fans. Last gen’s uniform fan layout has been usurped by a new rotation scheme and specialized roles for central and auxiliary fans. Below the blades, a larger, more impressive heatsink is ready for the most demanding thermal loads. The PCB has some new tricks up its sleeves, and even the backplate has received some performance-boosting changes. You've been waiting for the latest and greatest in graphics card design - and this is it.

Our Axial-tech fan design has been optimized for a new, larger heatsink that features more fins and surface area than last gen. The blade count has been increased on all three fans, with 13 on the center fan and 11 on the auxiliary fans. The barrier ring on the side fans has been slimmed down to allow for more lateral intake and to provide better airflow through the cooling array. The center fan’s extra blades and full-height ring provide boosted static pressure to blast air directly onto the heat spreader.

To bolster the specialized roles of the center and auxiliary fans, the rotational direction of the center fan is reversed. This reduces air turbulence inside the cooling array for another boost to overall thermal performance. The fans also shut off completely when card power consumption is low and the GPU temperature falls beneath 50 Celsius, keeping noise levels down when the system is under a light load.

To get heat into the heatsink array efficiently, so that it can be whisked away by the powerful Axial-tech fans, we use a manufacturing process that improves the surface smoothness of the heatspreader at the microscopic level. The extra flatness allows for better contact with the die, helping to enhance thermal transfer.

The heat spreader draws heat up into heatpipes that carry it through a fin stack that fills a large 2.9-slot footprint. Increasing the heatsink size compared to the last generation provides more thermal headroom to account for the new high-performance chipset.

Features:
- NVIDIA Ampere Streaming Multiprocessors: The building blocks for the world’s fastest, most efficient GPUs, the all-new Ampere SM brings 2X the FP32 throughput and improved power efficiency.
- 2nd Generation RT Cores: Experience 2X the throughput of 1st gen RT Cores, plus concurrent RT and shading for a whole new level of ray tracing performance.
- 3rd Generation Tensor Cores: Get up to 2X the throughput with structural sparsity and advanced AI algorithms such as DLSS. These cores deliver a massive boost in game performance and all-new AI capabilities.
- This GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card with LHR (lite hash rate) delivers 52 MH/s ETH hash rate (est.).
- OC edition: Boost clock 1890 MHz (OC mode)/ 1860 MHz (Gaming mode)
- Axial-tech Fan Design has been tuned up with more fan blades and a reversed rotational direction for the center fan.
- 2.9-slot design expands cooling surface area compared to last gen for more thermal headroom than ever before.

A long awaited upgrade...

I've been browsing online at GPU prices for a while now and noticed the prices have finally started to drop. I did some research and summed this card up to be the best for what I needed (1080p gaming future-proofed* for the next 4/5 years with the possibility of moving to 1440p at ultra quality). I noticed that Overclockers UK had the best deal for this card. So I took the leap of faith and purchased the card. I have to say I was like a kid at Christmas on the day the parcel arrived! It came next day as ordered and came very well protected, which was peace of mind. Overclockers UK clearly care about their customers when it comes to packaging and also took the extra step of including a little pack of Haribo, nice little added extra :D. During this purchase I realised it was part of the Spider-Man Remastered bundle, although at first the redemption code was not sent to me. After waiting a couple days to see if it was a delayed email I messaged Overclockers asking when I'd receive my redeem code. I had a very fast response by Kaylee H, who was very helpful and instantly sorted this technical issue for me by manually adding the NVidia deal to my order as it was not added automatically. I received the code a few hours later (It could have taken up to 72 hours to come through). In regards to the Card, I upgraded to this STRIX RTX 3080 from a Gigabyte Windforce 1060 3GB... BIG UPGRADE! It's a beautiful card and well worth the price! Highly Recommend! All in all, A great experience shopping at Overclockers UK and I will be buying from them again!

Ignore the benchmarks when it comes to upgrading.

I upgraded to this card from a RoG Strix 1080 which although was over 5 years old was performing as good as when it was new, despite being wary from all of the online reviews/benchmarks suggesting that the actual performance difference wouldn't be worth the cost, (excluding of course the benefits of the newer capabilities and it being a new card versus a 5+ yr old one). In actuality, the performance difference was huge. For instance, 3D Mark's Port Royal on the default settings @2560x1440 jumped from a score of 1566 to 11928. (Battlefield V went from a projected FPS of 70+ to 165+ (at 1440p Ultra)). The rest of the tests were pretty much doubling the scores, which counters the online benchmarks' suggesting only a small improvement. Rig for the above test: i7 7700k/64GB Corsair Vengeance RBG (4x16GB)/Asus Maximus IX Formula - Standard Clocks Card does run a little on the warm side, which is typical of nVidia GPU's, but still well within the good range. (F1 22 at Max runs around 76c), that said it is sitting in a badly set up case as far as airflow/cooling is concerned, so nothing a well balanced set up cannot resolve. Curiously, a brief flirt with Overclocking actually reduced temps by about 10c, despite verifying it wasn't thermal throttled, which was very interesting. Unless Afterburner was returning inaccurate data. My only gripe is the 2.9 Slot design, which is pretty much going to prevent me from vertically mounting in a Crystal 680X I have on order as well sit too close to the side panel restricting airflow, so if vertical mounting is your thing, keep that in mind. Overall though, a damned good card, I haven't yet met a Strix I didn't love.
