An M.2 drive is a small form factor storage device, which directly interfaces with the motherboard. You can find M.2 drives in a variety of lengths with the most popular form factor being 80mm long. These drives can connect to a motherboard via one of two interfaces, SATA or NVMe. SATA drives have two indents into their connector, while NVMe feature a single indent.
