Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

The PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2 with semi-passive dual-fan cooler reaches a maximum clock of 1.350 MHz. The 8 GB of GDDR5 VRAM is clocked at 4.000 MHz (8.000 MHz effective) and is connected via a 256-Bit memory interface to the GPU. An 8-Pin power connector supplies the 25,5 cm long graphics card with power and a power supply capable of delivering 500 Watts is recommended.

The PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2 provides a basic dual-fan cooler which allows the RX 580 to reach a strong boost clock of 1.350 MHz. For improved stability and an equal distribution of weight from the heatsink, the RX 580 Red Dragon V2 offers a backplate that enables slightly improved cooling at the rear of the PCB.

The Features of the PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2:

  • Semi-passive basic dual-fan cooler
  • Boost clock max. 1.350 MHz
  • Memory frequency: 4.000 MHz (8.000 MHz effective)
  • 1× 8-Pin power connector
  • VR Ready

The AMD Radeon RX 580 in Detail

The Polaris graphics chips of the Radeon RX 500 series are manufactured using the new optimised 14 nm FinFET-LPP process, which allows the performance in comparison to the RX 400 series to be increased. With 2.304 Shader Units, the same number as that of the Radeon RX 480, the Radeon RX 580 still delivers almost 10 percent more computational power in comparison to its direct predecessor. The reason for this performance increase lies in the process optimisations that have enabled increased boost clock speeds.

The Polaris 20 chip used in the Radeon RX 580 is similar to the Polaris 10 with the exception of the boost clock speeds, and it profits from the 4th gen Graphics Core Next architecture (GCN 1.3). Some of the innovative features within the Polaris architecture include, among other things, a new command processor, a geometry processor, new multimedia cores, an optimised display engine as well as an improved memory controller. Other supported technologies include Async Computer, Vulkan, DirectX 12 and AMD's FreeSync 2 technology.

The Radeon RX 500 series relies on the same control-, power saving- and clock-rate technologies used in the RX 400 series, correspondingly and due to process optimisations the RX 580 is capable of a markedly reduced TDP of just 185 Watts. Monitors can be connected via DisplayPort, HDMI or DVI-D to the graphics card and, thanks to EyeFinity technology, up to four monitors can be connected in a multi-display setup. The 2.0b HDMI outputs in 4K/UHD resolutions at 60 Hertz and HDCP 2.2 offers the ability to send an receive protected content (4K streming, 4K Blu-Rays), while the DP 1.4 port even supports 8K at 60 Hz.

In order for the card to reach its maximum potential, new drivers should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals from the AMD or Sapphire websites.

Very quiet card

Indeed it was so quiet that after playing very graphic intense games like Elite:Dangerous and Assassins Creed Odyssey (which came with the card btw) i thought the fans were dead. So I opened the case but they were spinning and keeping the card at a decent 69 degs Celsius. I had a Powercolor HD7970 before and I'm happy I stayed with them.

Decent card

Does its job, decent fps on the settings i was using before with a 980ti (rip) Quiet card, the fans only seem to kick in when under load.

Only issue i had was with drivers, but i think that was more to do with me not doing a proper clean, so a format and fresh install of windows, (which was overdue anyway) and all sorted now.

Brilliant XBOX beater

Bought this card as a first step to upgrading an old system that uses i975 processor and twin Nvidia 275GTX SLI. The Red Dragon is much quieter than I thought, a few times I had to check if the fans worked!
The speed of the card is phenomenal with today's generation of games - Destiny 2 max settings - 59fps avg; Ghost Recon Wildlands ultra settings - 45-60fps avg; Total War: Warhammer - 35-60 fps (slow down could be from the aged i975 processor).
As a cheaper alternative to buying the new XBOX One X, this card alone has made me pick the right decision. Next job is to down size my full rack length 4U computer case!!!
