If you want to make a statement with the best gaming card money can buy, look no further than the new ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090. With unprecedented power, this card is designed for ultra-high resolutions or super-fast refresh rates that help you reign supreme on the battlefield.

In order to extract the ultimate performance from the Strix GeForce RTX 4090, we built it with cooling as our top priority. The card’s 3.5-slot design consists of a die-cast metal frame, shroud, and backplate. The ultra-rigid structure uses frames with extremely tight tolerances to prevent the PCB from sagging or warping, while still allowing for unparalleled airflow through an enlarged pass-through vent along the back of the 357mm long card.

But with an ultra-powerful GPU like the GeForce RTX 4090, we wanted to go further than a large heatsink and vented backplate. So we rebuilt the heatsink design from the ground up, with a new vapor chamber and 30% more surface area for heat dissipation than the previous generation ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090.

This is no ordinary vapor chamber, however. In order to provide better heat transfer, this patented vapor chamber design adds milled channels underneath the heatpipes. Instead of the pipes lying flat against the surface, they sink into the vapor chamber, allowing more heat to efficiently transfer to the four 8mm and three 6mm heatpipes and travel to the heatsink fins. When subjected to a 500W thermal load, this potent pairing allows for 5°C cooler temperatures than a conventional vapor chamber design.

We also upgraded the Axial-tech fans, with a thicker design featuring 7 blades and full barrier rings that provide 23.8% more airflow and 19.3% more pressure than the previous generation fans used on the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090. With these improvements, we were able to keep GPU temperatures and acoustics at similar levels to the previous generation model, despite the extra power.

Speaking of power: this is an absolute monster of a gaming card, so we’ve included a 12+4 phase system comprising 70A power stages. With two power stages per phase fueling the GPU, that’s a total count of 24+4. The digital controller on board offers higher precision when detecting power, as well as better power conversion and balancing for less noise and signal interference. With a quality power supply in place (like our ROG Thor 1200P2), you should have no problem driving this beast of a graphics card, and with native 16-pin PCIe support, you can do it without any adapters required.

All of this comes with the same high-end features ROG Strix cards are known for. An ARGB tail-light works with Aura Sync to offer customized lighting across your build, while two FanConnect II headers allow you to control your case fans with your GPU temperature through our new GPU Tweak III software. For those who don’t want to dig in and tweak too much, the Dual BIOS switch allows you to choose between maximum performance mode and a quieter mode. Though thanks to our 0dB technology, the card will be silent at low loads no matter which mode you choose.

Finally, like our other ROG cards, the Strix GeForce RTX 4090 was built with our Auto-Extreme manufacturing process that minimizes human intervention, so you can expect reliable long-term performance right out of the box.

Great Card

by Simon star star star star star

This is the best graphics card I’ve owned and the performance coming from the Strix RTX 2080 Ti is night and day. Frame Generation is currently seen as a bit of a gimmick due to the small category of games that it is currently available in, but I think it’s a great improvement which makes this monstrous card, that already crushes anything at 4k native, even more powerful. The difference in visuals when using frame generation is unnoticeable when actually gaming, unless you’re sat looking for the differences. There’s added latency when using FG but I would personally only use it for single player games anyway, as you want the lowest latency possible in competitive online games. The 12VHPWR cable was a concern when I originally purchased this card, so I decided to get an ATX 3.0 PCI-E gen 5 compliant PSU which comes with a native 12VHPWR cable so that I didn’t have to use the one provided by Nvidia. If you do decide to use the cable they provide; make sure you hear the click. This card is also the best of the bunch made by Nvidia board partners due to its 600W power limit, allowing for more manual overclocking headroom. Overall, I would personally recommend this GPU to anyone that has the money to spend on it. Especially since the value proposition of the RTX 4080 in comparison to the RTX 4090 is non-existent. Pros • Great heat dissipation due to vapour chamber. • Aesthetically pleasing. • 600W power limit for manual OC. • Extra HDMI port. • Build quality. Cons • Price • 12VHPWR adapter provided by Nvidia can cause melting or fire. • Slight coil whine but some have reported very high pitch and annoying coil whine. • Size of the card.

Great Card, Happy Customer

I've had the card in use for about 4 months now, replacing 2x 1080 in SLI. The performance increase is incredible, and I've had no issues whatsoever with anything that I've thrown at it. Whilst I'd measured it up to make sure it would physically fit in my case, I wasn't quite prepared for just how massive it is... A support is definitely needed to stop it sagging, and fortunately there's one in the box that doubles as a screwdriver - beautiful bit of kit, but depending on your case it may not be long enough... It had some coil whine issues to start with, but they seem to have subsided over the months after buying it - partly why I waited to write the review.

PHENOMENAL CARD FROM ASUS

Putting the cost to one side, as we all know GPU's are bonkers expensive at the moment. The card is huge and comes with a GPU support tool to stop it sagging at the back end, make sure your case is big enough to accomodate the card or you'll kick yourself. I ditched the supplied power cable in favour of buying a PSU specific 12VHPWR cable, which removed a mass of cabble bulk form the side of the GPU, also make sure you have a PSU that has enough power to support the card. The LED lighting on the card is minimal and looks good with only the 'Republic of gamers' text and the rear of the card having LED's and it blends in well with any LED Eco system you may have. Using the Performance utility provided by Nvidia the card will clock to 3025 MHz and pulled 503 Watts, although these figures seem to change depending on programs running and driver version , paired with an AMD 7950X and 32GB DDR5 6000MHz it Benches around 32000 points on 3DMark Time Spy. Gaming at 3440 x 1140 with vsync enabled at 240Hz is amazing with Warzone running at around 180 - 220 fps with all settings maxed out, other games are on par like Forza, MSFS etc. Temps at the most average 58 C with an average clock speed of 2800MHz that massive heat sink does the job. Overll very impressed with Overclockers delivery and packaging as always, and Asus Strix build quality is top quality.
