The Grandia GD05 is a follow-up of the incredible GD04 as a chassis that combines years of SilverStone expertise in SFF (Small form factor) and HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) designs. It has the same beautifully proportioned exterior and powerful thermal capability that rivals the best tower chassis. However, the front panel of the GD05 was designed to be more flexible so that its 325mm depth can be utilized in more places than just home theaters. Even though GD05’s diminutive size allows it to easily integrate into any home theater cabinet, it can still accommodate an impressive list of standard components such as 5.25” device, two 3.5” hard drives, a 2.5” SSD, a standard ATX power supply, and two high-end graphics cards up to 11 inches. Cooling duty in the GD05 is handled by three filtered 120mm fans designed with the same positive air pressure to enable class-leading cooling efficiency, reduced dust buildup, and silent operation. To make installation simpler, there is even enough space for cable management to be easily accomplished without the need for short cabled or modular power supply. Coupled with special attention given to the order of installation, any user can quickly assemble or upgrade the GD05 with a small and powerful PC system.

Stylish, good quality case....

First up, this case looks great. The black brushed steel fascia gives this unit the minimalist look of an AV component rather than a PC, therefore it blends into my living room setup rather than standing out. Furthermore, it's also very similar in shape and size to my AV receiver, which means it's ideally suited to placement on a TV unit or AV rack. This form factor was the main reason I decided upon the Grandia GD05.This case is of good design and construction. I assume it's primarily aimed at the HTPC market but I have built a fairly powerful gaming rig in this case with little issue. It houses my GTX780 graphics card with some depth to spare, although the card is almost as wide as the height of the case which means the side mounted power connectors are touching the top of the case. Not ideal but not really a problem either. The slim form of the case also restricts the height of CPU cooler that can be fitted. Adding an optical drive reduces this clearance even further.Mounting options are good. It can house 2xHDD+1xSSD or 2xSSD+1xHDD and also an optical drive.Cable management is basic and a little challenging, but I think that comes with the territory in SFF cases. Despite this, airflow (positive pressure) seems to be decent and I haven't encountered any temperature problems. The three included 120mm fans are very quiet. You can fit another two 80mm fans to help things along. Overall, a good-looking, well-made case that is quite flexible and reasonably priced.
