The Thermal Grizzly Delid-Die-Mate Intel 13th Gen in detail
The Thermal Grizzly Intel 13th Gen Delid-Die-Mate is a tool for removing the heatspreader ("head", "delidden") on Intel processors from the Alder Lake and Raptor Lake series. With the so-called "Direct Die", the CPU cooler is mounted directly on the processor chip. By omitting the heat spreader in the cooling circuit, a significantly optimized heat transfer from the dies to the CPU cooler is possible.

Why Delidding & Direct Die Method on Intel Processors?
During delidding, or "heading", the processor's heat spreader is removed. For unsoldered processors, delidden is typically used to replace the thermal interface (TIM) between the CPU die and heatspreader with high quality thermal paste or liquid metal before the heatspreader is reassembled. However, since 13th Gen Intel Core processors are soldered, this is not an option as removing the indium solder would create too large a gap between the IHS and CPU dies.

Therefore, the 13th Gen Intel Core CPUs are primarily delidded for a possible installation of the CPU cooler directly on the CPU dies. Experience has shown that by leaving out the heatps reader and mounting the CPU cooler directly on the die, the temperatures can be reduced by 10-15 °C if liquid metal such as Conductonaut is used as the TIM. A corresponding test with an Intel Core i9-13900K was carried out by content creator and tech YouTuber Roman "der8auer" Hartung, professional overclocker and engineer.

Caution: Removing the heatspreader ("heading", "delidden") of a processor is at your own risk! The manufacturer's warranty expires when the CPU is decapitated! Damage caused by cutting the CPU is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty!

Amazing Temperature Reduction

by Geoff Cooper star star star star star

This delidding tool made loosening the IHS of my i9-13900KS incredibly easy and straightforward. I'm not sure I'd have dared to try without such a tool to be honest! The rest of the process to clean up and replace the stock interface material with liquid metal was faffy, messy and slow, I'll not lie, but the end result has been an instant reduction of 10-15 degrees under sustained load, which equates to a quieter working environment for me :)
