Looking for some advice. I was lucky enough to pick up a 3090 FE last week from Nvidia. It's a thing of beauty, runs quiet, no coil while to speak of, seems to be able to overclock reasonably well (+220 core and +1300 mem can do a Timespy benchmark) BUT the GeForce RTX logo leds don't light up (top ones do).

I've tried reseating, using iCue, putting in other PCIE slot etc but it just won't light up.

Should I return for a new or leave it? I'm not that fussed about the actual look but for a £1400 card you obviously want it perfect.

Best on Timespy so far is 21,123 (gpu score) with a stock 5600x in an old NZXT case. Geekbench 5 OpenCL around 222072 with max power but no overclock.

It is probably unplugged as was loose, if you are going to do the Memory pads you can find out.

Other than just "buying the best", what tasks do you guys find that genuinely required a card better than the 3080? What do you do that justifies your purchase of the 3090?

I am assuming super high textures or crazy res that would have just beat on lesser cards, or some application that benefitted.[/QUO

I was getting fed up with some weird stuff that was going on with my system, it kept dropping one of the Titans that were sat in Sli, it seemed to occur each time there was a driver upgrade so I wanted the most powerful single card solution to replace them and the 3090FE was the first one that came into stock long enough to order, I might have been tempted by a 3080FE but they weren't available.
Its solved all of my system issues no more weird crashes, no more disappearing GPU in hardware manager, slightly better frame rates in Flight Sim, happy days!

having a 4k screen at the time and now a aw38 high frequency screen, its nice to be able to run at between 60-120 fos constantly with everything switched on for full eye candy

Have had my 3090 Strix OC since the middle of December and have not regretted it for even a second. I came from running 2x 2080 Ti FE cards in SLI so I wanted the fastest single GPU available plus selling the older cards offset the ridiculous price a bit so i didn't mind spending £1700 and considering what a card like that now costs at the moment it makes a seem cheap, though I wished I sold them a bit later as I let one go for £400 as I could have doubled that now .

I only game at 4k with everything maxed out apart from AA unless it's a an older game and even then the 3090 in in games like AC Vallhala just about manage to get by with 60+fps but can dip below that so a 3080 would be worse. And when you start running ray tracing which I love even the 3090 can struggle to hit 60fps at 4k.

Plus the extra VRAM is nice to have even though 24GB is ridiculously overkill, after owing 1080 Ti's and 2080 Ti's with 11GB there was no way after 4yrs at that capacity was I downgrading my VRAM when it's now that games are going to want more VRAM especially now that the new consoles are here with their high capacities.

Same here and like you i regret selling my two 2080ti with waterblocks for £550 each but dont regret buying the 3090. SLI support was getting worse and worse so in many games I was just running on the performance of a single 2080ti.

Happy with my 3090, put 100's of hours on them. A 3080 sure is better price to performance, in fact had one then sold it (not intentional mind!) which made my 3090 cheap as chips anyways.

Extra performance is welcome, sure at lower resolutions it does not get a big delta, though ampere in general scales better as resolutions increases AMD dominating bottom end (bar RT / DLSS). But right now when playing CP2077 and AC valhalla, the 15%-20% performance at 4k I play on with a 120hz OLED is welcome.

I still have 3 x 1080Tis (should sell them now) and the 3090 replaced another 1080Ti, performance uplift is absolutely massive at 4k. Even when I enable SLI on the SLI rig where games support it well, does not get close to the 3090 at 4k for most the part.

I was hoping for owners happy stories. A lot of times people get salty about others spending money on high ticket items because they might not be the best value, so hearing some feedback for others on why owners are genuinely happy with the 3090 would be really cool.

ITs a good card. actually quieter then my 2080ti.

i had to do the memory thermal pads mod though and after that, temps are pretty great.

Its built like a tank.

would be good if there was a waterblock out there in the uk thats good and not bothered about price, had a active waterblock on its backplate also but for the MSI gaming x trio 3090 cards, lol they seem to have been forgotten when it comes to active watercooling on the back plate,
want / waiting for one to come out so i can replace this MP5works im using as i want to have less clutter in my pc i have to meny water hoses lol

i modded in a extra 480mm super thick radiator on my o11 dynamic xl case lol

i got to meny hoses though i need to reduce the hose amount
temps are great though, using suprimx bios 450w 54c max load @2150mhz core 1000mhz memory

memory temps are around 84c mining and mid 60s gaming

It's my main work machine for video editing, compositing etc. I didn't really intend to go 3090, and certainly not at the eye watering price I paid, but the only card I saw in stock and I'd been waiting since I converted from Intel to a 5950x In November of last year.

I don't regret it, this things a beast, 2040 core and 10050 memory and mid 40's Core temp and memory never over 65. Might need to replace the backplate though... Prefer the simple EK ones...

Made a massive difference on render and encoding times.

A gigabyte I'd be sh##ing myself right now I hD a gigabyte 2080ti and it was a nightmare good luck with it .
